Yes, Virginia, faeries really do exist!

I remember "seeing my first faery" when I was about 8 (altho' of course I probably saw them prior to this & just don't remember; or didn't have the mental catergory for my experience yet, etc.). It was a REAL fairy standing within a hedgerow, with wings seemingly bejeweled and a very gentle, loving, playful vibe. She smiled impishly and beckoned to me with her hand, making it clear she wanted me to somehow come with her. I was thoroughly entranced, but her invitation so astonished me that I ran off in fright!

And of course regretted it later.

Have also seen elves......also a troll or a gnome once, I'm not sure which he was..... They have always been a benign presence in my life (some people and some tales indicated that some species can be anything from annoying to harmful, but I cannot confirm this based on my own experiences).

Good, serious books on the reality of faeries include:
1. The Secret Life of Nature: Living in Harmony with the Hidden
World of
Nature Spirits from Fairies to Quarks. By Peter Tompkins & published
1997
by Harper-Collins in hardback. (Peter is the one who wrote the
international & very serious Secret Life of Plants, which was
published in
'70s to serious critical acclaim and really revolutionized the whole
white-bread middle-class attitude toward the sentience and personal
realities of plants. Book was replete with scientific info backing him
up,
too; so no one could just shrug it off as a crazy thing. This new
book,
The Secret Life of Nature, is also very serious and very good. Even
goes
into physics. Please find it and read to your heart's content!

2. Fairies: Real Encounters with Little People. By Janet Bord, published 1977 by Michael O'Mara Books Ltd., 9 Lion Yard Tremadoc Road, London SW4 7NQ. I got it directly, however, by ordering it from One Spirit Book Club, a new off-shoot of Book of the Month Club. (This new off-shoot carries all kinds of fascinating stuff. Also, Amazon Books -- which is always advertising itself on Search Engines, at least on Alta Vista, probably has it or could get it.......) This, too, is quite good.

3. All books about Findhorn, the famous international
community in Scotland
which was founded by 3 adults working in cooperation with nature
spirits,
devas, faeries, etc. Eileen Caddy (one of the original founders) gives
a
fascinating account of it all in her book Flight Into Freedom; Dorothy
MacLean (the one who communicated directly w/ the whole faery &
plant world
the most) tells her own story, (probably the most fascinating of all) in
"To Hear The Angels Sing". You could try Amazon books for that,
too -- if
the don't have it, writing directly to Findhorn should get you their
book
list. (If you don't have the address let me know & I'll give it to you.)

Other books about Findhorn -- books in the 3rd-person
usually -- about
Findhorn in general are equally WORTH IT, have some great
pictures,
stories, philosophy, and so forth.

Lots more to share with you, only if you want.......... (including that the greatest singer/recording artist of all things Faery is Donovan. Are you familiar with him? Let me know & I'll turn you on to his amazing music. During the Beatles' incredible world-riding hey-day, Donovan was right up there, almost as Big (INDEED!) as the Beatles, himself. He is now back with, of course, another ravishing album......and he never abandons his relationship with the fey world in his music writing.

Peace and joy -- Helen
